I am the guy with multiple interests, and honestly I don't like this. It's completely beyond my control. I have heard somewhere it's called shiny object syndrome. It's basically the urge to try out every new thing that you see. Due to this kind of brain wiring I have got over time, I have developed multiple interests in life. Due to constantly switching interests, I find it difficult to focus on any one particular task, but here I am sharing with you how, in between multiple interests and hobbies, something can be so soothing and comforting.
I got interested in music because my mom used to sing a lot. I have heard my mom singing Lata Mangeshkar songs. While watching TV, my favourite channels were 9XM, Zoom, and B4U. Even now, when something goes wrong, I have found myself listening to songs on loop for hours. Most of my screen time is taken up by music.
For me, investing my time in my hobbies was always a waste of time, followed by a period of boredom and guilt. But now, as I am growing and facing more brutal challenges in life, I am realising the importance of something that you completely do for yourself. It can be anything, be it a hobby, a place, or any activity that you don't do to accomplish anything. If you do something that you love, the activity itself becomes the result. Remember using clothes, towels, and pillows to create your own universe? It's like that safe corner of your room, to feel safe at least in the imagination. When I sing alone, there is no performance; there is just the expression, there is space for mistakes, no judgement, which creates a transient bubble of safety in my life. You don't need that protection all the time, but at the times when you need it, there should be something.
